"If they decide to make a sequel, they would have to hire new writers, and that could honestly lead to a lot of inconsistencies"
So it would be like the original Mass Effect Trilogy?

If theyre truly unwilling to hear criticism anymore, theyre already well on their way to a big fall.

If theyre truly unwilling to hear criticism anymore, theyre already well on their way to a big fall. (charitably) it might just be that if they get a better reception in other places then that's where they go rather than being beaten up on BSN. And if BSN (seems) to be all about beating people up (which it isn't of course) then why would they fund a place they find, you know, 'toxic'... If they thought about it as hard as they say they did, I don't think it would have happened.

Ive never been one for worrying or conspiracy theories when it comes to BioWare. But I admit to silence coming from the studio in the last 2-3 years has been odd. Then with little to nothing being shown of their flagship title after 3 and half years into its development and the sudden closure of its forums and the departure of a good chunk of the senior staff, for the first time I'm actually worried about the company. Hopefully its all just nothing and everything is going fine...

One thing that I liked about the official forums is that I could go there and write or agree with constructive criticism of the games. Not just to be negative but hoping that some employee of Bioware might be reading and maybe it would help make future games better. I know I will be less critical here. No reason to be. Nobody in Bioware is reading. So disappointing.

The Occam's Razor answer basically. And one that makes sense, plus managing expectations for the press and fanbase as much as possible. People tend to overhype as it is. <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> True about people allowing themselves to get hyped. However, Bio mngrs are partly to blame as well. I'm convinced that a dev diary about the development of the game goes a long way to reassure the fans that the game is progressing. No need to hype it at all. After all, do you honestly believe that their target audience stands by Twitter Mon-Fri to read ME:A tweets? Those that do are a small percentage anyway, imo. Oh of course they are. Which in of itself is part of the problem. Whatever the reasoning is for this forum closure right now I would bet that this is something being enforced by someone, and not a choice made by BioWare.

Enforced by EA? Hm...
Here is a possibility. Bio looked at the threads and saw continuing comparisons between their OLD games, 3rd party games and the future ME:A game. What Bio wants, instead, is for the fans to talk about ME:A. What to do? Answer: wipe the forums and re-introduce game forums as they are launched.
Why else keep one open?

I'm with Heimdall. I think that they are going to get more exposure, more helpful critiques, more praise from other various social networking platforms they they ever will with us.
I mean, we've been arguing with one another for what? A year now? New people coming in are gonna see this, see how jaded we are, and just go, "No, ya know what? Piss off."

I think an EA marketing call was most likely. The DAI forum contributed I think hundreds of posts complaining about the Inquisitor's pyjamas... I think they want to control the message.
However, if this forum has something intelligent to say I can bet you that devs will lurk.

I think it was just a turntable of who's job it was to moderate the forums. In other words, one week it would be my job (on top of all my other duties), next week it would be your job, the next week it would be SoAndSo's job, next week it would be my job again.
I got one infraction a couple'a days ago from a post I made waaaaaaaaaaaay back, like two weeks ago for inappropriate language. I used the acronym WTF. And no one was doing their jobs at moderating the forums. So then BioWare finally just made the decision, "Well, if nobody in the company is even going there, what's the point?"

Sadly with EA being the publisher of BioWare's games, they take up as much control as they feel justified to keep the buzz positive. If they were worried about fan negativity tainting sales then it makes sense to nuke the forums. Of course, BioWare loses out with fan interaction but pfft, cash bro.

Honestly, I dont have the doom and gloom thing going on. They have the new IP and have hinted the next DAI is in development.
Forums come and go. Times change. If they didn't, GEOCITIES would still be around.
And I bet they will have some sort of limited Forum for Andromeda but it wont be like how it is now.

And of course the spin will be we made a mistake, so were starting new, a sort of baptism of the new BioWare and such. Which in of itself is not necessarily a bad thing.
