Steve was cool. I liked that he had an actual job and was dedicated to it. That gave him a little more depth as a character than being "the gay guy" to fill out the romance options roster. That said, his only problem is that his arc is entirely wrapped up in his lost lover, at least when you don't romance him. I played only once and romanced Tali so maybe it's different. However, I fail to see how his past lover would be less important if you're forming a new romantic relationship.
Well, that and he exposes that all males but James have the same body model still. There's a hilarious shot of their backs having the same contour and mole/birthmark. Steve just has darker skin than a white Shepard. That was more forgivable in Mass Effect 1.

See I think grief affects each person differently. I had no issues romancing him with my shepard. I interpret it as Robert wanting him to go on and I think Shep really reached the point where he needed somebody. Steve was devoted to him. Their banter between missions was cute. They faced possible death and were living each day as if it was their last. And in my canon. Shepard survives, recovers but retires and lives a quiet anonymous life with Steve in a remote area where he is watching the galaxy rebuild from afar.

Sure, but this is a character, not a real person so they could have given him a little bit more going on than "my husband died." Still, I liked that he was drowning out grief with work.

I liked Steve, never did his romance but i did become friends with him. I think one problem he had was his look, which is fine normally, but in this game, where everyone stands out... he just blended into the background. I have heard people who just thought he was an NPC and ignored him, which is pretty sad. He just didn't "pop"

I liked Steve fine but preferred the Kaidan romance. The crying was a reason why. It made sense, but I had a hard time chasing after him because of it.
