There was a Mako in this isn't there? I'm glad it's back but i'm mainly excited about the potential for exploration based questing it offers moreso than the actual prospect of driving it or the vehicle combat gameplay itself. I don't really have any great expectations for the mako gameplay or customization other than a bit of meditative relaxation between objectives, punctuated by mild amusement, funny glitches, etc. accompanying striking visuals to add some much needed gameplay variety and visual flair to Andromeda which has been lacking since ME2. As a fan of the series what fascinates me the most even more than learning about the central plot or new cast info is finding about each species' survivors plans for the future, following their exploits and watching the future of these different species unfold before our very eyes.

Mako is cool and all, but in ME1 it rapidly became as tedious as the planet scanning in ME2. I don't need its addition if all I'm going to get is more frustrating mountain ranges and maps that I have to methodically comb over just to find the hidden base, crashed probe, and pointless Matriarch writings.
If they give us tight content centered around the Mako, then I'm excited for it. Something like exploring a planet with bone-crushing gravity, rolling across the scorching sunward side of a tidally-locked planet, or storming the base of an entrenched pirate warlord? That I can get excited for. But if it's just a way to speed across all the repetitive emptiness between destinations, I don't really care.

Driving mechanics aside which were never a deal breaker for me the main issue with the UNC planets in ME1 was the lack of compelling secondary questing content. Despite the lack of content I still find ME1 infinitely more replayable than the sequels to this day and driving the mako around between missions listening to a cool playlist taking in the views of epic landscape with the snow or sand under my tires was a big part of that experience which I have really missed. Stumbling across Thresher Maws or ambushes in the desert was exciting due to the added unpredictability and variety even though the attacks themselves aren't dynamic. I’m fully aware of the pit-falls of self-described open-world exploration meaning it will likely translate into an over-reliance on procedurally generated fetch quests, copy-paste combat dungeons and resource-gathering/collectathons which are always a dull repetitive affair if you over do it but a little bit can go a long way to creating fleeting enjoyable moments of organic emergent experiences which elevate the experience beyond the linear story campaign and it’s hard to see where they can go wrong building on the building blocks of ME1 and D:AI and looking at the failings and success of Hello Games, Bethesda and other studios recent experiments with procedural content. As long as we get hearty main quest full of memorable character moments I’m sure we can overlook teething problems with optional mako and secondary quests just as we did nearly 10 years ago. I just hope we don’t have to wait another ten years before they try it again if it proves not to be successful in their eyes.
