Cassandra is an admirable woman. She's strong, yet careful to examine if her actions are for the best. She's fair enough to hear the other side out even if she doesn't agree and she can be most sweet when given time to relax and trust the person she shows it to. And yet... She has flaws. Flaws that are easy to miss in the game. She is passionate, to the point of acting with forcefulness. By the time she's calm enough to talk to rationally, the damage can already be done. It's understandable and it gives her a depth that many a fictional character would be well off to have. I liked her a lot. Really liked her. Until I took her around on the team with an Inquisitor Lavellan. There was nothing wrong with asking if Lavellan had room in her heart for the Maker. Ameridan clearly proved a Dalish can believe in separate religions. But for all the respect and care Lavellan can show, she still has to hear Cassandra insult her faith at the temple of Mythal. While I don't doubt that if called on it, Cassandra would have apologized, there's no way to talk to her about it, no way to reach an understanding. I, the player, and Lavellan have to deal with Cassandra being a hypocrite. Another part that bothered me was after her mission with the Seekers, she lies to Dorian about the Seekers' lack of intervention. He has to call her out on it before she'll admit that she had to leave because of it. This is a woman sworn to be a Seeker of TRUTH. A woman who said in Caer Bronach on her own mission that she doesn't shy away from hard things. Perhaps that's the point, she's a flawed human being in the end, who has to try to improve. But she never tries because no one tells her that it's wrong. And she can potentially become powerful enough to make life or death decisions over people's lives. I know, the game simply doesn't have the nuance to deal with every little possibility, but these moments changed my opinion of her as drastically as the Inquisitor saying the Chantry should die to her.

I was bothered by this, as well. I'd like to have a talk about it because it was, indeed, very hypocritical of her. Because it's not like Andrastians don't have all those Chantries and whatnot. Because it's not like from another faith's perspective, Andrastianism isn't just ridiculous hoghwash, as well... I do love Cassandra and I take it as one of her flaws. One flaw does not define a whole person. So, as much as that one stings (especially since Lavellan is my favourite) and I'd be the first one to call her out on it, Cassandra is still one of my favourite characters out of all BioWare games. I don't think any of the BW characters is absolutely perfect, either. It's probably for better since imperfection is more real. A character you can hold nothing against might very easily end up being rather bland or shallow. This was my problem with Tallis who I felt the writers tried too hard to make me like a lot. (I don't dislike her, but I see it. I see it the entire time.)
Cassandra makes mistakes, but I think she also tries hard to do the right thing. Personally, I like to believe she can be steered to do better because her negativity might come from a place of ignorance. (I'm sure at least some of us said things throughout our lives that we now regret because now we know better.) Much like you, I believe that if we were allowed to call her out on it, she might at least consider that what she said was hurtful and unfair. I think that her reaction to the fact that the truth about Ameridan was swept under the carpet proves that, proves that she tries to be just and truth is important to her, regardless of whether it is pleasant or not. That moment I was even more sure I wanted her as my Divine.
Either way, we all draw the line somewhere, so I understand.

Cassandra is the female character I've always wanted in my games. Just saying. I love her lots.

Simply put, I want to be her when I grow up. Oh bugger, I already have. I'd say that's a really good thing to realize if you share enough similarities. She's almost unanimously liked for obvious reasons.

@ Vanilka
Thank you, I've always wondered how that conversation would go. She definitely cares about accomodating people, even after going through one of the worst arguments with them (aka Varric). It's touching that despite the worse blowup, she'll acknowledge her part in the argument.

True. That's one of the things I like about her so much. She shows so much self-reflection and she constantly beats herself up over something. Whether she did the right thing when she broke away from the Chantry and helped reestablish the Inquisition, the way she didn't let Varric understand how important their task was and thus never found out about Hawke, how she was part of an organisation that ended up being shady as hell, etc. She constantly disregards how important her contributions are, which shows almost too much humility on her part. In addition to that, she realises very well that she can be brash and act rash, sometimes causing more trouble than necessary. It's that self-reflection, humility, and high standards she holds herself up against that make me believe she can do better.

She's my most used companion in DAI. Plus I like the scar on her cheek. Too bad the Inquisitor couldn't ask her about that

I want to know about the scar, as well! Also Cullen's scar. Don't BW realise I'm part krogan, so I've got to know? Unbelievable.
